The Logitech G600 Mouse

This page is dedicated to the Logitech G600 mouse.

Not many people know about MMO mice and their uses, but I think they should be given more consideration. I do not personally play MMOs, I use the mouse for productivity and I think it is the best productivity mouse out there.

MMO mice are defined by having a lot of customizable side buttons, and often a more comfortable shape. Most of them have a 12 button layout in a 4 x 3 grid on the side, for the thumb to press.

My mouse of choice is the Logitech G600, a MMO mouse released in 2012 and discontinued in 2023.

Pros and cons

Here are the reasons it is better than other MMO mice, such as those from Razer and Corsair:

  • It has a G-Shift button, which allows its 12+ buttons to become 24+.
  • Its side panel has an easy to distinguish dual dish design.
  • It is quite durable, based on many users reporting they used it for 6 years plus with no issues.
  • The scroll wheel side scrolls, a feature a lot of mouses do not get made with anymore.
  • The software is better.
  • It was very cheap when it was still available to buy.

Downsides:

  • It has a laser sensor.
  • Wired, although this is not something I personally mind.
  • The specs overall are not that good because the mouse was designed in 2012 and never received an upgrade.
  • On the heavy side.

My button assignment usage

I use this mouse for my desktop, coding, and video games. The desktop and text editor mappings are combined. I use the primary set for a lot of web browser opening/closing related shortcuts, as well as file system and task manager. The G-Shift secondary set I use completely for code text editors including copy/paste/cut, find, comment out, select all, etc.

For games with a number row mappings, I directly map the numbers onto the buttons in order. I put menu and map shortcuts onto the bottom row.

Conclusion

The mouse is extremely useful and I think that it may be a use it to see it situation. However, for it to be your main mouse, the lots-of-buttons feature has to be more useful to you than other criteria like extremely good sensors, a different shape, or extremely lightweight.

I highly recommend this mouse to anyone who might fit in to the above use cases. I do not have an alternative MMO mouse to recommend, because I really think this one is the best. For a different kind of mouse that is still in production, I think the G502 is good. Logitech, if you are reading this, please bring the G600 back!
